God says; I’ll supply all your needs according to his riches and glory. Man says; if you do for me I’ll do for you. We tend to believe man over God and that’s wrong. Whose report will you believe? Man is not mightier than God, however; we treat him that way. We are so quick to take direction from man and we fail to consult God. When we do take a chance on God and he tells us what to do, we turn right around and try to get someone to co-sign on what God just said. Again I ask; whose report will you believe?

People that know me know I love to cook and that they can always get a meal at my house. Recently I stopped cooking for a week or so because my kids were not eating. My son’s friends came over and like clock work they went to the kitchen. I said; boys there’s nothing to eat, I stopped cooking because the kids were not eating. Immediately the boys told my son; man you’re messing up what heck is going on. They went to his bedroom and about five minutes later they came back to the kitchen and said; Ms. Brown can we please look in the refrigerator to make sure there’s no food to eat. They looked in and scraped together a meal from some old leftovers.  While sitting at the table they were telling my son; don’t ever do this again. I laughed so hard to myself. But I began to wonder, how many of us block some else’s blessing on a daily basis. How have our actions caused someone else to be blessed? The people whose blessings we blocked, did they have enough faith like those boys in my house not to take no for an answer, and come back to pursue the blessing? We have to be careful of our actions, because our actions not only affect us, they affect those around us.

Are you prepared for when the storm comes, or will you just deal with it when it gets here? I live in an area where a volcano eruption or an earthquake can happen at any moment. They tell us to keep a bag packed with non-perishable food, any medications we may need, and our important paperwork in it; so in the event something happens we can just grab and go. I tell my youngest daughter; keep your phone charged and on you at all times in case something happens and we’re not together. The storm is like the coming of Jesus. No man knows the day nor the hour when Jesus or the storm is going to come; but we must ready. Our souls must be anchored in Jesus. Once Jesus cracks the sky it’s a wrap. Once the storm comes, we don’t have time to look for our important paperwork, find our medicine and go buy non-perishable food. Now is the time to get ready, as so it is with Jesus. When we die or if he comes back before we die, that will not be the time to give our life to him; it will be too late and our souls will live in a burning hell. Don’t waste time fooling around and not be prepared.

Many people often say I love the Lord, I believe in God, but I don’t like going to church. I can truly understand them. As a preacher I get turned off by the foolishness that goes on in church as well. I was once told by a church mother; 50% of what goes on in the church is for you and 50% of what goes on in the church is not for you. You have to figure out which 50% pertains to you. That has stuck with me for years. It also helps me to continue to go to church when I’m sick of it. Even Jesus was sick of church folk. In Revelations he told the church of Laodecia that they were neither cold nor hot and since they were lukewarm he would spew them out of his mouth. What I’ve realized over the years is that; I cannot allow people to get under my skin so bad that I’m willing to forsake the assembly of the saints.

When God closes the door it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you. He knows what’s through that door and he knows you can’t handle what’s through that door; so he shuts it. Stop trying to pry the door open once God shuts it; you’re just asking for trouble. Have you ever thought that your character cannot handle what’s through that door? Have you ever thought that you’re emotionally unstable, financially illiterate, and pyschologically unfit to handle what’s through that door? Just let it stay closed and wait for God to open another door.

Everything that God made he said was good. When he made man he said; it was very good. If God said we are fearfully and wonderfully made; why do we allow people to tell us otherwise and believe them over God? If God said we’re the lender and not the borrower, why are we spending everything we have and not saving a dime? If God said weeping my endure for a night but joy comes in the morning; why are we still crying over things that happened years ago? We need to take God at his word, and know that it’s all good. No matter what’s going on, hold your head up high and bless the Lord oh my soul and all that’s within me, bless his holy name.

I love a good game of spades. It allows you to see just how creative you can be. Sometimes I may get a good hand dealt to me and then there are times that I get a crappy hand. Nevertheless, I play my hand and make something out of nothing. That’s what we need to do in life. We may not have the best life, so we think. But, we have life and as long as we’re alive we can play the hand that life has dealt us. We start out playing our hand by saying; this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. 

Throughout the course of life we have to play our hand by saying; I will look to the hills from whence comes my help, my help comes from the Lord. We may have to even say; no weapon formed against me shall prosper. When this life is over and your score is tallied up; will you have wasted the hand you’ve been dealt, or will you have played your hand of life according to the bible.

Christians can be some of the meanest, judgmental people. They forget that they haven’t always known Jesus in the pardon of their sins. It’s hard to get non-Christians to come to church because they see our behaviors and attitudes towards others. So, we must ask ourselves; are we good Christians or are we raising hell on our way to heaven.

Many people don’t like to share their testimony if it doesn’t involve a house, money or car. Many people also don’t like to share their testimony if they feel it’s not a feel good outcome. We all have a testimony; good, bad, ugly or indifferent. Your testimony doesn’t have to have a happy ending. Some people lost their house while trusting God would save it. Some people died while believing they would be healed. Some people’s children are still on crack; while their parents are still trusting God to save them. Don’t be ashamed of your testimony, God is going to use your testimony to give someone else hope. So share it. God didn’t make a mistake when he allowed whatever outcome to happen. All things work together for the good of them that love the Lord and are the called according to his purpose.

Yesterday my son’s basketball team was playing in the championship game. The ref was making horrible calls. I made the statement; ref, you’re going to make saved folks start cursing. God let me know, the ref isn’t going to make you do anything. If you curse it’s because you want to. As Christians, we feel like as long as we have an excuse for why we do the things that we do, then it’s justified. It’s still wrong in the eyes of the Lord. My son’s team went on to win, but I was willing to let a game with no real meaning allow me to lose my witness. A lot of times in life things are not just worth it.
