Locked Up

How many of us are walking around free but we’re locked up in our minds? We’ve allowed what someone thought about us to convict us and throw away the key.

We’ve convinced ourselves that our sentence should be life without the possibility of parole. That we don’t deserve forgiveness, we don’t deserve clemency.

It’s time that we free our minds through the word of God. The bible says; let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus. Jesus never had a defeated mindset. In fact, he had to let the people know; don’t think I can’t call my Father and he send a legion of angels to come set it off down here.

We need that same mindset when the jury comes back and wants to pronounce a life sentence on us.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

A Little Encouragement

While I was working out today, I wanted to quit, give up, throw in the towel, because my body was in so much pain. Then someone called my name and said looking good, keep going. When they spoke those words, it was like I forgot my body was screaming for me to stop. I got a burst of energy out of nowhere.

How many times have we seen someone running for the Lord, and it looked like they wanted to quit, give up, and throw in the towel? Did we become self-righteous and say something stupid like; maybe you really are not saved or maybe you’re too weak minded etc… Were we accomplices in helping them give up and walk away from God? Did our crazy comment help them seal the deal to turn their backs on God?

In times like this, a little encouragement goes a long way. We may be stronger in certain areas of our walk with Christ, but we all struggle in other areas. So, instead of tearing people down when their at their lowest point in life; try lifting them up with a few encouraging words. You may just save their life.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

Including The Kids

I’m taking the Dave Ramsey financial course and it talks about including your children and teaching them how to save. I’ve learned if I include my children in the process then they understand vs. me just telling them how and never showing them examples.

This got me to thinking, do I include my children in prayer or do I just tell them to pray; after all, I am the preacher. Sure my kids have seen me pray and have heard me pray numerous times, but how many times have I included them and said, today the family is depending on your prayers for us. Or, have I set them down and explained prayer to them? Or, did I think it was the Sunday school teacher’s responsibility to teach my children how to pray and have a prayer life? When I include them they begin to understand the power of prayer and it gives me a confidence to know, if they ever need the Lord, need help, get in a jam, etc… Then they don’t have to wait on me, they can pray for themselves.

God said he uses the foolish things to confound the wise. Here I am learning about money, and it led me right to prayer. So, if you’re like me and have not been including your kids in the important things of God like you should or as much as you should; today is a good day to start.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

Waiting On An Answer

Waiting for God to answer you can be frustrating. Sometimes God answers right away and other times he takes forever.

The frustration comes in when we still have to function as if we’ve received an answer while waiting. We are still making moves, but they are limited. We are still making decisions but they are limited. Life is still happening and it doesn’t care that God hasn’t answered us. Meanwhile, we are listening to everyone else’s testimony how God answered their prayers. How God told them exactly what to do; and we smile and say oh praise the Lord. All the while, we’re thinking Lord where you at.

While we are waiting, God is seeing can he trust us and what are our real motives. We may not realize it while we’re waiting, but God is making our motives pure and the waiting is all a test.

Frustration is natural, but will we pass the test being frustrated and waiting on God at the same time.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

Get Over It

Why do we act like everyone is going to treat us like a past family member, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend or ex-spouse treated us? Whatever happened in your past, get over it.

I was talking to someone and they told me they thought I was doing them like someone else did them three years ago because they couldn’t get in touch with me. My first thoughts were; are you kidding me! I don’t know what was going on in your life at that time. I had to explain to them, that my day starts very early in the morning and I don’t have time to just talk on the phone.

How crazy is it for us to hold on to nonsense for years, and then try to make everyone feel sympathetic towards us because we’re still wearing our feelings on our sleeve. In today’s society, many people don’t have the time or the energy to deal with other people’s past issues and hurts that have been lingering for years.

All I can say is, get over it. The time has passed. Life has continued to move forward. What does is matter now if they’ve never apologized to you. It didn’t kill you. Live your life, love yourself and thank God you survived to see another day.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

Reset

Have you ever had a day that you wish you could have a do over? I mean from the time you got up till the time you went back to bed, you just wished you could take back what you said, what you did, who you hurt, etc…

Since you can’t do a reset you can repent. You can apologize for the things you’ve said and done. You can ask for forgiveness from those people and from God and do your best not to mess up again. We are not always at 100% but we can strive daily to be at that level.

Don’t beat yourself up because you need a reset, go to God in prayer and let him work it out.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

A Spirit Of Excellence

You hear people talk about a spirit of excellence all the time yet they don’t possess it. Mainly you hear about it in church and it makes you wonder who are they trying to convince; us or them?

A quick way to see if you or your church is operating in a spirit of excellence, do this quick test . If church starts at 11am do you get there between 10:45-10:50 or do you come after 11? If you get there early you maybe operating in a spirit of excellence; if you get there late, you are operating in a spirit of slothfulness. If your church starts on time regardless who’s there or not, it maybe operating in a spirit of excellence. However, if your church waits for a certain amount of seats to be filled, it’s operating in a spirit of numbers. If you sing in the choir regardless if you lead the solo or not, you maybe operating in a spirit of excellence. If you only sing when it’s your solo, you’re operating in a spirit of pride. If you preach the unadulterated word in hopes someone might be saved, you maybe operating in a spirit of excellence. If you’re preaching for an amen, applause or a pat on the back, you’re operating in the spirit of entertainment.

Be careful when you throw that phrase out there, because people are watching and if you or your church is not living up to the standard of excellence people will begin to talk and most importantly, God will not be glorified, edified, or pleased.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

When God Gives The Increase

When God gives the increase, throw away the poverty mentality. The bible says we are the head and not the tail; if this is true, why do we continue to want to be the tail after God gives the increase?

Some of you maybe saying I’m not the tail. Well, God gave you a better paying job above the poverty line but you’re still trying to get food stamps. God allowed you to be debt free but you’re still trying to get subsidies on something you have more than enough to afford. That’s being the tail and that’s having a poverty mentality.

When God gives the increase, it’s for you to be the lender and not the borrower. It’s for you not to be enslaved to no one social services program where you have to give your life story for a little bit of help. It’s for you to be a giver and not be stingy.

Once you’ve got the increase, tell yourself we’re not going back there. We’re not going to live check to check anymore. We will have two nickels to rub together to make heat. And show God how grateful you are by changing your mindset.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

No Bad Days

If everything that God made was good, why do we say today was a bad day? I believe there are no bad days but there are challenges within the day. Some challenges are rougher and tougher than other days, but it’s not a bad day.

Even if you’ve lost a loved one on today, it still isn’t a bad day. Yes, it hurts, yes you may question God; but look at it this way. If they were saved: to be absent from the body is to be present with God. If they were not saved, then today could be very sad but it should challenge you to get a deeper relationship with God.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand how people can say this was a bad day, I use to say the same thing. But when I consider the awesomeness of God, his patience with us, and I look at all he’s made; all I can say is mighty are the works of his hand.

Today may not have been the day you planned on having and you may have had a challenging day, but be grateful that God allowed you to be alive to take part in his day.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.

Cancer In The Church

Every church has cancer and the pastors have to figure out how to surgically remove it without doing more damage to the body. The cancer in the church are those individuals who spread negativity to to the body in such way that it kills the body spiritually.

The sad thing about these individuals is that they refuse to believe the diagnosis that they have cancer. In refusing the diagnosis they don’t accept any treatment plans. Treatment plans very from repentance to stop spreading rumors to undergoing aggressive surgery by being cut out.

No, these individuals come Sunday after Sunday, Wednesday after Wednesday being sicker than the last time the church saw them. Either one or two things will happen; one, they will accept the diagnosis and start the correct treatment plan or two, they will continue to walk in denial let the cancer advance to stage 4 and die, spiritually and literally. The bible says its a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing.
